A man who hasn’t slept in over 60 years shares his sad feelings about living with this condition

Vietnamese man claims he hasn’t slept in over 60 years, shares heartbreaking story of life with this condition

60 years

For someone who often complains about lack of sleep due to shift work, this problem seems trivial compared to what “Tai Ngoc” has had to deal with for decades.

An 80-year-old Vietnamese farmer claims he has barely slept since the early 1960s after falling ill with a severe fever.

Even though I received medication as prescribed by the doctor, it did not help. Furthermore, the hospital I went to for the examination could not provide an explanation.

“It’s both frustrating and hopeless,” he told Vietnamnet.

“It’s a very strange disease. When I see other people sleeping, I feel envious. On nights when the moon is bright, I often go out to cut grass and till the soil because sitting still is unbearable.

It’s strange that I work twice as hard as everyone else, but my life is still not as prosperous as I had hoped.”

Although the family remains suspicious of the condition, some believe his lack of sleep may be linked to a bizarre form of PTSD from the Vietnam War that lasted from 1955 to 1975.

In 2023, American YouTuber Drew Binsky traveled to Vietnam to find this man and study his condition.

Binsky, a content creator known for his travels to 197 countries around the world, says:

“Whatever the truth is, I traveled from Arizona for two days to a small สนใจสมัคร? คลิกที่นี่เพื่อเริ่มต้น village in southern Vietnam to find him, stay up all night, and prove that he was not sleeping.”

You might be wondering what he does when he’s not sleeping. Ngoc explains that in addition to working in the fields, he also brews his own local wine in the evenings.

Although drinking rice wine made him feel a little tired, it was not enough to make him fall asleep.

However, the interpreter said, “When he drinks a lot, he can sleep for an hour or two.”

“But often, around 4am, he would lie down on the bed, but he wouldn’t really fall asleep because his mind was still thinking as if he was awake,” the interpreter added.

Despite the hardships most people face in their daily lives, this war veteran said: “I can still carry 50 kilograms of fertilizer and walk 4 kilometers from my home to my farm without feeling tired.”
