Barcelona are keen to strengthen their left flank with Nico a top target, amid doubts over whether the financially struggling Blaugrana have the funds to sign the 21-year-old, with Athletic Bilbao not in talks and any club interested in signing Nico would only have to pay his €58m release clause.
During an interview with Catalunya Radio on Monday, Laporta was asked if Barcelona could sign Nico. The Barca president replied simply: ‘As of today, yes.’
‘There will be good news in terms of sports. We will announce it soon. We are working on the agreement that Hansi requested.’
Laporta had previously confirmed the club’s economic situation had improved, with the Blaugrana making several deals for economic recovery and believing it would soon be back on track in terms of Financial Fair Play.
